About HeatPumpCompared
Independent heat pump brand comparisons, grant guidance, and calculators for UK homeowners. No manufacturer sponsorship. No hidden agendas.
Who we are
HeatPumpCompared is an independent digital publisher. The site was created because we identified a clear gap in the UK market: homeowners facing a £10,000-18,000 purchasing decision had no neutral, data-driven resource to help them compare brands and navigate the grant system.
Manufacturer websites are understandably promotional. Installer comparison sites have a financial incentive to push certain brands. Government guidance is accurate but dry. We aim to be something different: independently scored, clearly caveated, and genuinely useful to someone who just wants to know if a Mitsubishi or a Vaillant is right for their home.
We collect email addresses and property information via our quote request form solely to connect homeowners with MCS-certified installers.
Our editorial principles
HeatPumpCompared does not install heat pumps, sell equipment, or take referral fees from manufacturers. We do not benefit financially from recommending one brand over another. Our revenue comes from connecting homeowners with MCS-certified installer businesses — not from manufacturers.
All brand scores (efficiency, reliability, installer support, value, overall) are calculated by our editorial team based on publicly available data: MCS product certification data, Microgeneration Certification Scheme installer network statistics, Which? reliability surveys, consumer reviews, and installer feedback gathered from our network.
If we have a commercial relationship with a brand, installer, or product, we will disclose it clearly on the relevant page. Currently, we have no commercial relationships with any heat pump manufacturer.
BUS grant amounts, eligibility criteria, and energy tariffs change regularly. We review and update all grant-related content at the start of each Ofgem tariff quarter. The last full review was April 2026.
Nothing on this site constitutes financial advice or heating system design advice. Always obtain a professional heat loss survey from an MCS-certified installer before making any purchasing decision. We always include this reminder on pages where it is relevant.
How we score brands
Brand scores are on a 1-10 scale across five criteria, weighted as follows:
| Criterion | Weight | Data sources |
|---|---|---|
| Efficiency (SCOP) | 20% | MCS product certification data, manufacturer SCOP figures at A7W35 and A2W35 |
| Reliability | 20% | Which? reliability surveys, Trustpilot scores (weighted for heat pump-specific reviews), installer feedback |
| Installation | 15% | MCS installer network size, installer training programme quality, commissioning documentation |
| After-sales support | 20% | Warranty terms, parts availability, response time to fault reports, installer support line quality |
| Value for money | 25% | Average installed cost post-BUS grant vs. score on other criteria; does the price reflect quality? |
Scores are reviewed annually or when significant product updates are released. Last updated: April 2026.
