BUS Grant Hits Record: 102,735 Applications in Autumn 2025
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme hit a new monthly record of 4,013 applications in October 2025. Here is what it means for availability and waiting times.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) hit a significant milestone in October 2025, with 4,013 applications submitted in a single month - the highest monthly figure since the scheme launched in 2022. Total applications since launch now stand at 102,735.
The surge coincides with growing awareness of the scheme, installer network expansion, and rising energy costs that have made heat pumps increasingly competitive with gas boilers on running costs.
What does this mean for new applicants? The good news: as of April 2026, BUS funding remains available. The scheme is funded until March 2028 with £1.5 billion allocated. Applications are processed on a first-come-first-served basis, but there is no current queue or wait for vouchers once an MCS installer submits an application.
However, the surge in applications has created some pressure on installer capacity. In popular regions (particularly London, South East and South West), waiting times from initial survey to installation have extended to 6-12 weeks in some cases. If you are planning an installation, starting the process now rather than waiting until autumn is advisable.
The record figures also reflect growing installer confidence. The number of MCS-certified heat pump installers has grown to over 5,000 companies - up from 3,200 at the scheme's launch. This expanded network means more competitive quotes and shorter lead times in most regions.
